Maki-e Experience

Maki-e Experience: Lacquered Chopsticks & Bowls

Step into the world of traditional art to try maki-e, a decorative technique in which a design is drawn with wet lacquer, then covered in powdered gold, silver, or other metals. This artisan-led workshop offers an opportunity to decorate items using authentic maki-e techniques. Use lacquer to draw a design of your choice onto chopsticks or a Japanese-style soup bowl, then sprinkle on powdered tin to make the decorations glitter, and finish by polishing the surface down. Enjoy the warmth and softness of traditional lacquerware bowls and chopsticks used in the experience. Following this, the items are carefully finished by a professional, and sent to your hotel within the next few days.
